Some say the widest, some say the most dangerous river of Bangladesh. We are talking about the Jamuna River of Bangladesh. It is one of the three main rivers of Bangladesh along with the Padma River and the Meghna River. It is the main distributary channel of the famous river, the Brahmaputra. It enters Bangladesh through Kurigram district of Bangladesh. In the journey through Bangladesh, the river meets some other important rivers like, the Teesta. At Goalundo of Rajbari district, the Jamuna meets the other major river, the Padma.
Many cities and villages of Bangladesh are located at the bank of the Jamuna. Therefore, many people of our country are directly related to this mighty river. They share their life with this river. Sometimes the river brings joy for them and sometimes sorrow for them. The largest bridge of Bangladesh till date, the Bangabandhu Bridge or Jamuna Multi-purpose Bridge is on this river to connect the north part of the country with the capital. The bridge was the 11th largest bridge of the world at the time of its opening at 1998.
