Somapura Mahavihara is the most important and beautiful symbol of Ancient Bangla. This is the place for which Naogaon is known to the world. Somapura Mahavihara is located in a small village named Paharpur. This was designated as an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. It is the most important and the largest known monastery at south of the Himalayas which has been excavated. This 7th century archaeological find covers approximately an area of 27 acres of land. The Atrai is one of the main rivers of this north Bengal region.
